DG Genuine Jamaican Ginger Beer costed around $1.66 (as we had gotten it at a 3 for $5 deal) at the America’s Food Basket in Brooklyn, New York City.
After the first sip I found that the ginger beer is not as strong or spicy as other brands that I have had in the past but it still rather subtle. Along with this it has a slight sweet aftertaste after the initial spiciness which gives satisfying refreshment. I found that there is no metallic aftertaste in this ginger beer which is noticeable in cheaper brands.
I also found that you can add this Jamaican ginger beer into other drinks and it makes a quite nice pair- especially with some gin. Alongside this, I find that this ginger beer helps you feel much more energetic after drinking it as it does include some real ginger (though see bottom section of this article).
However, there was a slight chemical taste in the ginger beer that I found unsettling though this might be due to the ‘artificial ginger’ flavoring they had added into the ginger beer.
The mouthfeel was not that great though as after I had drank the ginger beer the outside of my mouth (the lips) felt a bit dry and chalky. This was very uncomfortable and makes it hard for me to recommend the drink due to this despite the great things I’ve mentioned.
Jamaican Ginger Beer Conclusion
I do believe that this ginger beer would be much better had it been a lot more stronger and spicier as it is very mild. Though a remedy to this is to add a ginger infusion to the ginger beer to make it much stronger and nicer!
Overall I found that this ginger beer was okay- it’s not the best due to the horrible mouthfeel but the flavor is quite nice apart from the slight chemical aftertaste
Therefore, I would rate it a 4/5 as it is not the best ginger beer but it still tastes pretty nice despite the mouthfeel!
