The Morrisons Morello Cherry Pie is a delicious and affordable dessert pie which costs only £1.50! It has a tart yet sweet profile while extremely crispy and crunchy (especially when reheated). Additionally we had received this cherry pie on a Morrisons Too Good to Go bag.
The crust of the cherry pie is very crispy and crunchy which creates an absolutely mouthwatering mouthfeel!
The cherry filling inside of the pie is extraordinarily rich along with the taste it is tart. The filling luckily does not have its natural flavors impounded by too much sugar that is an issue with some pies.
It works well with the mushiness that is provided by the inner crust as it gives a creaminess to the tartness. Additionally, these help to contrast with the sweet pastry flavor combining well especially if you serve with coffee.
The cherries still have their fruits mostly intact inside of the filling which gives a nice chew to the pie. The aftertaste of the pie is not bad as the sweetness lingers for a few seconds then subsides. There is a slight acidity to it but not too harsh to be an issue.
We had the pies with custard and the filling really does well when mixed. The richness of an egg custard helps to elevate and bring out the tart cherry flavor! I suggest that the pies to be heated up in the oven for around 5 to 15 minutes at 200 C fan on. Preferably around the 7 to 10 minute mark.
