Lidl’s Eridanous Sweet Brioche with Hazelnut Filling costs £2.29 which is quite expensive for a bread but it was enjoyable nonetheless!
The brioche’s bread is very nutty and sweet with a slight floral overtone which creates a pleasant sensation in your mouth. The crust is delightfully smooth and silky and there is no hardness at all to this brioche bread. The brioche bread also does not get stale easily which is a plus too! The crunchiness of the hazelnuts on top of the bread were a great addition as it gives a nice texture so that it’s not all fluffy as there’s complexity.
The filling is very sweet and tastes a bit like Nutella but slightly has an artificial metallic aftertaste which is unfortunate. I paired this for breakfast with a coffee which helped to elevate the flavours of the hazelnut brioche; though you can also add some of the Lidl’s Dutch caramel spread to this and it makes it heavenly!
I also dunked the bread into the coffee to give it some more moisture and flavour and it was great- it didn’t really collapse and imparted the flavours of the coconut coffee into the brioche bread!
Overall, the Eridanous Sweet Brioche reminded me of the sweet bread I had while I was in the United States and it was a great taste to remind me of that time. Though, it is quite expensive so I give the bread a 3.5/5 stars!
